As a student you can obtain a substantial financial support from the federal government for your college tuition, books and laboratory fees. The loan accrues no interest during the time that you are legitimately enrolled as a student but will commence drawing interest upon graduation or whenever you leave college. This is the information given by all school aid advisors and is pretty much on the level.

Even though the Soldier and Sailors Act of 1947 should protect you from the increase of interest after school, sometimes this doesn’t happen because the actual law is misinterpreted. Many administrators feel that the steady income from a military occupation precludes any advantage in the delay of paying back a government loan or in the reduction of the annual interest.

It is the repayment phase in which many problems can occur. After the ‘no interest’ phase is over, the student loan can be sold by the Federal Government to state loan agencies. They in turn can then sell them to the highest bidder and in this manner the so called student loans can be quite expensive after the interest rates grow proportionately.

The longer the student loan remains unpaid the larger it grows in size. My student loan was $3,000 but after almost fourteen years the total payback amount was over $16,000. You will understand my distrust of government programs to assist educational costs but until a few years ago it remained the only plan available. This is due to the fact that almost all government loans are administered by local financial institutions and not by government agents. This allows many of the government loans to be placed into delinquent status when this should not happen. It also permits a ratchet of the loan interest to regular consumer rates.

A more acceptable way to acquire government assistance is through the military’s G.I. Bill. I finished my education thanks to the old G.I. Bill Act of 1945-1975, a very gracious gift from a grateful nation. The current bill only covers approximately $10,000 which is a matching fund grant. Educational expenses today from a quality university will cost anywhere from $18,000 – $28,000 per semester. These will only cover tuition, books, room and board. The LAST thing you want to be when adventure traveling is under prepared.  All it takes is a short amount of time to make sure you have all the right gear next time you have the opportunity to travel.  I have hiked with people who didn’t have the proper items when it started pouring out in the jungle, and it’s not pretty.  There’s really nothing you can do when you’re out in the terrain and asking yourself “why didn’t I bring a raincoat?”.  So I decided to create this easy list of supplies you’ll want to check off on your next adventure. Short and simple, here is a quick list to check off when packing:

Windproof/waterproof jacket
Plastic to cover your back pack and camera
Fleece/sweatshirt to hike in
Watershoes(If doing water sports, these are a huge plus)
Small towel
Swim wear
Insect Repellant (You’ll want it)
Change of pants/shorts/shirts
Hiking shoes (Gym shoes will usually compensate)
Flashlight
Sunglasses
First aid kit
Sunblock
Camera/Film
Pocket Knife

This is a small list of physical items you’ll want to check off before leaving for an adventure trip.  Now depending on the length and extremity of your trip, you’ll always want to pack accordingly.  If you’re going to be doing a 12 hour hike or a 4 hour mountain biking trip, your supplies will be different.  Make sure to always take the right amount of food and water.  It’s always better to over prepare and not vice versa. Everyone’s hurting a bit in this downwards spiraling world economy. But if you’re still lucky to have a job and need that release a vacation can only provide then head towards to Bangkok Thailand. With some of the wildest nightlife venues and seedy sex districts, Bangkok leaves an indelible memory on all who visit.

To make the most of your vacation in Bangkok when visiting the sex districts it’s best to stay at a hotel that has a guest friendly policy. These hotels don’t require a guest to pay a joiner fee which is usually 500THB. There are many but you’llf find a some names of popular ones below

Bangkok has three main sex districts:

Patpong
Nana
Soi Cowboy

There are a few more but the 3 main ones are mainly geared towards foreign tourist. Which is a good thing since these three are connected through Bangkok’s efficient train system the BTS Sky Train.

Patpong is Bangkok’s oldest red light district dating back before the Vietnam war started. Today the drinks and go go bar activities are a bit higher since Patpong has been commercialized. But you can still find decent prices on local draft or brewed beers such as Singha and Chang. There is only one guest friendly budget hotel within a 5 minute walk to Patpong and its called Bally’s Studio Suites Silom. This hotel is relatively new and the rooms are decent in size. It’s also close to the BTS Sky train so you’ll be able to get to the other sex districts easily.

Nana sex district has the most guest friendly Bangkok hotels because you can find a wide selection of nightlife venues in this area. There are hundreds of beer bars, dozens of popular nightclubs and the best thing of all is Nana Plaza is located right across the Nana hotel. Nana Plaza is a small building, just 3 floors but the place is packed full of go go bars and a dazzling display of bikini clad ladies. Some of the popular budget guest friendly hotels in this area is the Woraburi Sukhumvit, Swiss Park, Nana Hotel and Salil Hotel. And they’re all within walking distance to Nana Plaza.  Read more...
