Although the official currency in the Czech Republic is the Czech Koruna (spoken: Crown), in Prague prices are often quoted in Euro and the single currency is accepted throughout the city by bars, hotels, restaurants and merchants. At today’s rate of exchange (July 2011) your British Pound equals 27 Czech Koruna in your pocket, 1 Euro= 24.5 Czech Koruna and 1 Dollar = 17 Czech Koruna.

ATM machines are widely available throughout Prague and the , we strongly advise using your debit card in these machines as Visa and Mastercard charges will be very high. On purchases however, the rule is reversed and it is better to use your credit card in shops and restaurants. As with all foreign travel, do not allow the waitress/shop keeper to take your card out of your line of vision as card copying can occur.

In the last year prices in Prague for services and goods (apart from hotels) have increased by around 30% due to preparation for entering the European single currency.

: Prague is filled with inexpensive hotel options where even 5 star hotels offer rooms at under £70/€80 per double room per night. Prague is not a seasonal destination and is very busy with tourists throughout the year with Christmas, Easter and the six week summer holiday period (mid-July to August) being the most busy.
